AstroCamp 2026 Parent Guide
AstroCamp 2026 Parent Guide
A complete guide to preparing for an unforgettable summer of science, adventure, and community in the San Jacinto Mountains.
Welcome to AstroCamp
AstroCamp is a Southern California overnight summer camp where kids and teens ages 8–17 explore hands-on science, mountain adventure, and the kind of camp magic that builds confidence for life.
Set in the cool pine forests of the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild, AstroCamp gives campers the freedom to try new things, discover new passions, and find a community where it’s cool to be curious.
Whether this is your camper’s first time away from home or their fifth summer in the mountains, this guide will help you understand what to expect, how to prepare, and how to support your child in having their best summer ever.
What Makes AstroCamp Unique
A Blend of Science + Adventure
Campers experiment in professional-grade labs, explore astronomy under clear mountain skies, build and launch rockets, climb real granite boulders, and race down mountain biking trails.
This mix gives campers the chance to challenge themselves both mentally and physically.
A Values-Driven Community
AstroCamp is warm, encouraging, and intentionally inclusive.
Campers learn communication, teamwork, and personal responsibility while having fun with new friends and supportive instructors.
Space to Unplug + Explore
Located at high elevation, surrounded by pine trees and big mountain views, AstroCamp gives kids the freedom to disconnect from screens and reconnect with the world around them.
Camp Sessions: 1-Week, 2-Week, and Specialty Week
AstroCamp offers several session formats so families can choose the experience that fits their camper best.
1-Week Sessions (Ages 8–17)
Our 1-week sessions are perfect for:
- first-time overnight campers
- younger campers who are still getting used to being away from home
- families wanting a shorter time commitment
- campers who want a fun, high-energy introduction to AstroCamp
In one week, campers rotate through a mix of hands-on science, astronomy, and mountain adventure activities, all while settling into cabin life and camp traditions.
2-Week Sessions (Ages 10–17)
Our 2-week sessions are designed for campers who are ready for more:
- more time to build friendships
- more chances to try activities
- more space to grow confidence and independence
Two-week campers still get the core AstroCamp experience—labs, astronomy, climbing, biking, creative electives—but with extra time to dive deeper into their favorite parts of camp.
Specialty Week (1-Week Themed Session)
Specialty Week is a standalone 1-week session with a fun twist: campers choose a themed track that matches what they love most.
Tracks may include things like:
- outdoor adventure
- creative arts
- storytelling and role-playing
- culinary
- STEM
Each track includes focused activity periods around that theme, plus classic AstroCamp fun, electives, and evening programs. It’s a great fit for campers who want a week that feels a little extra “themed” and tailored to their interests.
