Our Mission & Philosophy
AstroCamp is operated by Guided Discoveries, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to:
Make a difference in the lives of children through unique opportunities for discovery.
This mission drives the development of our summer and school year programs, as well as our teaching philosophy. AstroCamp makes a positive difference by providing children with opportunities for discovery in physical science, in astronomy, and in themselves.
Our labs and other science activities immerse children in science and allow them to explore it safely and in their own way.
We believe this is the most meaningful way to learn about science, and we believe it generates a greater sense of understanding. This has been our method since our beginning, and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) now lend even more support and legitimacy to this method.
While AstroCamp began as an educational experience, Guided Discoveries has always recognized the power of the ‘camp experience.’
Spending time away from home for multiple days and taking on new challenges allows children to grow in a way that only camp can do. Camp provides a safe and supportive environment for children to step out of their comfort zones and become the best version of themselves.
AstroCamp would not be what it is today without the people who push this program and its mission forward.
Every staff member, whether a brand new employee or a member of our experienced Leadership Team, has shown a true passion for Guided Discoveries and changing lives.
