What is Camp CHOP’s Cooking Summer Camp?
Camp CHOP (Culinary Hands On Program) was created to provide a fun and dynamic hands-on educational experience for youth passionate about the culinary arts. In our new food lab, our chefs will learn the basics of cooking, baking, and safely operating in the kitchen, while having an enriching, memorable, and fun summer camp experience. The Camp CHOP instructional team that includes professional chefs, veteran teachers, camp professionals, and scientists was crafted to provide a truly unique and immersive experience that campers will be talking about all year.
As the newest addition to our world-renowned collection of programs, CAMP CHOP benefits from our more than 40 years of camp and educational program experience, as well as the knowledge gained from the 1.5 million youth that have participated in our programs.
We believe that CAMP CHOP will not be just one of our best programs, but the best program of its kind for youth in the county.

What evening activities are offered to Camp CHOP campers?
At Camp CHOP, campers are in for an exciting array of evening activities designed to ignite curiosity, foster camaraderie, and create lasting memories. Camp CHOP campers enjoy evening activities with Geek Week Campers. Here’s a glimpse into the evening adventures awaiting campers:
- Crew Night: Campers come together for team-building exercises, group challenges, and bonding activities aimed at fostering a sense of unity and cooperation among peers.
- Elective Nights: Campers have the opportunity to choose from a variety of elective activities tailored to their interests and passions. Whether it’s arts and crafts, sports, music, or outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
- Camp Fires: Gather ’round the campfire for storytelling, singing songs, roasting marshmallows, and sharing laughs with fellow campers under the starlit sky.
- Space Night Telescopes: Delve into the wonders of the cosmos with telescopes provided for stargazing sessions. Campers can marvel at distant galaxies, constellations, and celestial phenomena while learning about astronomy from knowledgeable counselors.
- AstroCon (bring a costume!): Campers unleash their inner space explorers and don their most creative costumes for AstroCon, a cosmic-themed costume party filled with fun, games, and out-of-this-world entertainment.
- Final Night EXTRAVAGANZA!: The grand finale of Camp CHOP’s cooking summer camp is an unforgettable extravaganza featuring a culmination of all the week’s activities, performances, and celebrations. Campers come together to revel in the spirit of adventure and friendship, creating memories to last a lifetime.
Can I communicate with my camper during their cooking summer camp?
AstroCamp offers kids a chance to gain independence while enjoying the camp experience. Parents can send emails (Bunk Notes) using the Campanion App or CampInTouch, with five free CampStamps available each week.
Additional stamps can be bought, and any unused ones will roll over. To promote independence, phone calls are not allowed, but staff is reachable during business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
In-person visits are also prohibited for safety and scheduling reasons. For inquiries, please call 951.659.6062.
What are your housing accommodations?
Guests are housed in heated dorm buildings with several dorm rooms and bathrooms. Each dorm room contains 4-6 bunk beds with mattresses, and the bathrooms contain several sinks, toilets, and showers. More information can be found on our Dorms page.
My camper is coming with a friend. Are there bunkmate requests?
If you would like your child to bunk with a specific roommate, you can make this request when you sign up for camp. Roommate requests are NOT guaranteed. We will do our best to accommodate reasonable requests. Roommates are grouped by AGE, NOT GRADE in school. The age cutoff date is August 31st. Campers will NOT move up to the next age group. We only grant reciprocal requests. Please make arrangements with friends at least one month prior to camp.
Apart from the culinary class, what other daytime activities are offered?
Camp CHOP offers campers a plethora of opportunities throughout the day, including Astro labs, exploring outdoor adventure electives, and participating in our Renaissance Festival.
