Learn More

AstroCamp provides me with a home away from home; it allows me to be my most authentic self surrounded by campers I know and love. AstroCamp is a constant throughout my life – a place I can always hold on to and look forward to throughout the year. At camp, I have made some of my closest friends, explored some of my passions such as ceramics, ax-throwing, and geocaching, and created memories to cherish. The powerful sense of family and community keeps me coming back, and each summer I get to see the same faces of campers and counselors as I have for many years past. I am so grateful to have spent my summers as an AstroCamper and will forever hold this special place close to my heart.

2-Week Sleepaway Camps FAQs

View All FAQs

What is the weather like at AstroCamp?

AstroCamp’s 100-acre facility is located within the stunning Southern California mountains. As a result, the elevation has an impact on the climate.

The days are often mild (mid to upper 70s), but the nights can get cold. We recommend packing long pants and a sweatshirt that the camper can wear to evening activities.

Please review the two-week sleepaway camp packing list to pack appropriately.

Do you have a nurse or doctor on-site?

We do have a medical professional on the premises for our summer programs. The Health Center is where all prescription and over-the-counter medications are stored and dispensed by our camp nurse. Additionally, our staff holds certifications in first aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Lifeguarding.

For more serious issues we can contact the local paramedics who will arrange transport to the local clinic or hospital. The typical EMS response time to our facility is 6-10 minutes.

If my camper has special requirements, how are they accommodated?

We will make every effort to accommodate any special requirements your camper may have. Please contact the Summer Camp Director, Diana Huff, as soon as possible and she will discuss any needs and issues with you.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the AstroCamp Registrar or Summer Camp Director at the business office:  909-625-6194

Can I communicate with my camper during their stay at AstroCamp?

AstroCamp provides a unique opportunity for kids to grow independently while fully embracing the camp environment. Parents and guardians can send emails (Bunk Notes) via the Campanion App or CampInTouch, with AstroCamp offering five free CampStamps per week.

Extra stamps can be purchased, and unused ones carry over. Phone calls aren’t permitted because we want to foster independence with the camper as well as be cognizant of their busy schedules. However, our staff is available for concerns during business hours (8:00 am – 5:00 pm). If calls are made outside of the working hours of operation, they may go to an answering machine or be answered by a camp administrator.

For camper safety and due to their busy schedules, in-person visits or tours are not allowed.

If you need to contact us, please call (951) 659-6062.

How does the 2-week sleepaway camp differ from the one-week summer camp at AstroCamp?

As mentioned above, our two-week sleepaway camps are provided to teens between the ages of 12-17, whereas the one-week summer camp serves campers ages 8-13. If your camper is 12 or 13, they have the option to attend either one.

The main difference between the two overnight summer camp sessions is their focus.

The two-week sleepaway camp is designed to offer teens the opportunity to build their schedules based on their own interests, similar to a university where students have autonomy over their class and extracurricular schedules. Campers will select their preferred activities before arriving at camp and will participate in them multiple times throughout the session to enhance their skills.

The one-week sleepaway camp still offers some free choice in selecting certain activities tailored to each individual camper’s interests, but it focuses on active engagement on pre-selected core activities that they’ll do as a cabin group together. This is the best option for campers that have never had an overnight camp experience before.

Does AstroCamp offer scholarships or financial aid?

Yes. All applications for financial aid must be received prior to April 1 for that year’s overnight summer camp program.

Please contact the AstroCamp Registrar for an application and more information.
